The art work which I chose for my visual diary were ones which I had seen before and interested me but also a mix of ones which had been taught during are lectures. Coincidentally they were binary opposites of each other; my own personal art was a modern mix of pop art and expressive pieces such as Roy Lichtenstein’s “Comic Book” pieces in comparison to the detailed and renaissance pieces such as “Venus and Mars” painted by Alessandro Botticelli which showed more personal emotion and relationships between characters (unlike Pop Art which was just expressive pieces with (seen further away but actually small dots) of block colour surrounded by thick black dividing lines).<o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I looked into new pieces of technology which had come out recently and tied to see how they will affect the future of media and its platforms. For example, one of my blogs looked at the introduction of 3D across film, television and recently with Nintendo’s newest console, the 3DS, gaming. The introduction of 3D was first seen in cinema as test pieces in 1922 and we further adapted into mainstream cinema with the “golden era of 3D” in 1952. Audiences were amazed with the films technique of how it made the people and props around them “come to life”. In the 2010, the popularity boomed again when more and more of the films were inserted in the mainstream market. The pinnacle of the popularity was the release of James Cameron’s “Avatar” with its amazing fight scenes, landscape and people. People were amazed how the film created this “Utopian pleasure” were people could escape into this “blue” world were the landscapes and people were all fascinating. This however created problems and some people became so immersed that it created a tear-back- the “Avatar syndrome” were people believed that they were so much in the world that their brains ceased functioning properly and they committed suicide. This was very much the problem in the 1990’s with the release of “The Matrix” when people were so immersed in “The Matrix” that they thought they could do anything. This was dubbed as the “Matrix Psychosis”. However the popularity increased further and more and more films were released in 3D. In 2011 they finally were able to create the technology to allow televisions to show 3D films and programs allowing the experience to “be brought into people’s homes”. This came with its own problems however as the televisions were expensive, there isn’t very many channels and programs to use the 3D experience to its fullest capabilities. My blog post however, didn’t really go into detail about the problems which were relative to 3D and focused too much on what the future for gaming and television was with this technology now readily available which could be a criticism as I didn’t look at both sides of the spectrum in detail. <o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">My photography within the blog was limited and a little boring. Most of the pictures were taken around campus and the local Bradford area without going further out to get pictures of either landscapes or ones which had an interesting view . The pictures were mostly architectural (such as the pictures of Bradford and the University) and didn’t really follow the artist or modern look which the rest of my blog tried to envisage. However some of the photos do show some form of art, with some landscapes that were taken on a train ride, some images of technology (such as the photos of the Bradford Media Museum) and some just had a naturalist and public look (like the town centre and the green around the University)<o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">My blog could have used a variety of different platforms of my own work. My blog focused a lot on drawn and Photoshop/ GIMP created images and I didn’t go into depth with practising with video graphics, filming or relations to gaming such as a Flash game etc. Although the Photo-shopped images were adapted to show colour – which is important in art as colour can relay information, emotion and an ambience of a picture. The emotion of an image is important as it can give someone an idea of how the subjects within the paintings are feeling but can also give a look on the relationship of the two. In John Burgess’ “Ways of Seeing” he explains how the “faces of paintings become messages” meaning that the face and emotion it shows can relay a “message” to the viewer of the painting in different ways depending on the person’s own feelings and evaluation.<o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Although I did try to focus my blog on new media pieces but also pieces I enjoyed and previously knew, some didn’t flow as well as others. My presentation and blogs were slightly random and could have been better organised to allow the blog to flow better from one to another. For example, the blogs about some of the artist research could have been grouped together at the start instead of being once every few posts. The post of Da Vinci and his work is a good example of this as although I did link the research I did with some of my own studies of his work, I could have linked that to another artist instead of going onto a newer piece of video or one of my own images. <o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">My final product which I created was a intermix of the two things which I enjoy, art and comic book styling pieces. I tried to mimic a Roy Lichtenstein approach with the characters with simplistic facial features and use of the speech bubbles and action text to show the movement and interaction of the characters but I combined it with the block colouring and black lines of a simple comic book. For an added element, I based my comic around an issue which has become more and more predominate which is the problem with domestic violence. Domestic violence has become one of the most campaigned problem in media adverts as well as problems such as child abuse, poverty and other variations of aid. The use of this adds to another platform of new media issues allowing my final piece to incorporate three different aspects to create one product to have a mix of older art (Pop Art) and newer media aspects (Domestic Violence campaign such as endviolenceagainstwomen.org.uk) <o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Overall my blog was a good mix of picture, video and new media technology posts which in turn allowed me to experiment and create my own new pieces of artwork and drawings to further my creative ability in some subjects. In the future however I may need to look into more video based blogs of my own creation. If I experimented with short films or title graphics next time, I could use my Photoshop and GIMP skills to create new and visual appealing pieces of work. Also I would need to be able to link more of work to different theories to show how the public react to them and show that even when new technologies come in and change what was seen as “the norm”, it can still be relative to things of today.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'AR BLANCA';"><o:p></o:p></span></span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />

Its a small comic strip about an issue which is most common and pronounced now - domestic violence. I tried to use a look which is relative to today's clothing and colouring (either pastel colours and not a lot of print) like Lichtenstein used in his comic books with the well dressed woman in expensive clothing. Here I used simple colours in the clothing to just how simplistic the look is of people's clothing today in comparison to the 50's. The comic strip has a mixture of pop-art styles intermixed with comic book styling of comics today. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As I put in my previous posts, I had trouble with the colouring of the images. If you look at some of the panels, there is a white fuzzy outline which goes around the edging of where the Quick Selection Tool was placed causing gaps in the colour. If I was to do this again, I would use a drawing tablet to colour the specific bits instead of just relying on the QST. (My tablet broke just before creating this so I was unable to do this)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Overall I'm pleases with the way the piece turned out as I think I mimicked Lichtenstein's concept but added my own twist to it. I like the story and how it was set out but next time I might add a history of before and what happened to her and why she is in a abusive relationship with this man. Exploring the backstory however can be added later which I will probably continue on this blog. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Its been a good experience to do a piece like this instead of having to use things like After Effects and physical drawings and the idea of using Photoshop and drawn images to create a final piece is something which I may follow in the future and practise more to get better. Hopefully by the time I pass, I can make a industry quality (or near enough) comic strip which I can then progress into other parts of my media work.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">The Media Product:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYAhb9gnMe9MOuKgkX4YcxqZQNsTXxLwefbUNS0LEhHxx9lTYPDkj2Iw6t8gZAKb4rXoYR_PBLAKBRZHiMY3YV6nzR_tMAr5vaw9Zuc3dNP3yZRsQaQr_XNjOS9ueGKIyl9NtZLmQ7mSP8/s1600/Storyboard2.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYAhb9gnMe9MOuKgkX4YcxqZQNsTXxLwefbUNS0LEhHxx9lTYPDkj2Iw6t8gZAKb4rXoYR_PBLAKBRZHiMY3YV6nzR_tMAr5vaw9Zuc3dNP3yZRsQaQr_XNjOS9ueGKIyl9NtZLmQ7mSP8/s640/Storyboard2.2.jpg" width="465" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Note: Originally there was supposed to the a 6th panel. But due to it not following the story properly and having problems drawing and colouring, it was cut for the final piece.</div>Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-12029353867707708832011-04-12T03:34:00.000-07:002011-04-12T03:34:11.159-07:00Problems with Final Piece<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUsndu-o591JzDKJtSnRz1p4cxe4NUGpGQAsj-lSxhxQEh1UzwoUxHY26cc-6jNEVho6oqqL2jsfGCpYOodiWSGXYvFLy4cKtpkruYJ6X2HHWNL9GQ9ZWyPO9C5UkyENphZjwCFDtZh5K9/s1600/Fist.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="427" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUsndu-o591JzDKJtSnRz1p4cxe4NUGpGQAsj-lSxhxQEh1UzwoUxHY26cc-6jNEVho6oqqL2jsfGCpYOodiWSGXYvFLy4cKtpkruYJ6X2HHWNL9GQ9ZWyPO9C5UkyENphZjwCFDtZh5K9/s640/Fist.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
This is a screen-shot of the production of my final piece. I thought this would show the problems that I encountered while creating the strip. To add colour to the specific sections of the piece, I selected them using the "Quick Selection Tool" (like I practised with my other pieces of work earlier) but I encountered a problem. The selection tool would cover over each of the motion lines that I had drawn onto the fist when they touched the background. To help remedy this problem, I have to scale the brush of the Quick Selection down and trace over the lines to prevent them from being painted over. This was time consuming and the end result wasn't perfect.<br />
Hopefully next time I do something like this, it should take less time and come out a lot better.Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-25493228559811893262011-04-11T15:44:00.000-07:002011-04-11T15:44:38.484-07:00Idea for Media Product - The beginning stages.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbCVDI1JKQGMIHNC4SyFw0pqZFoJ0RCyTaZjlukZVx1ccre8I087UJX26cCkGX0PjmVETehK6HV3rGxKV2d-GtYP9ilCuFl3McVGikuOgOrBxfcPJDEDm6FafFa7ZtnJzCCbjkf1uoUD62/s1600/Storyboard2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbCVDI1JKQGMIHNC4SyFw0pqZFoJ0RCyTaZjlukZVx1ccre8I087UJX26cCkGX0PjmVETehK6HV3rGxKV2d-GtYP9ilCuFl3McVGikuOgOrBxfcPJDEDm6FafFa7ZtnJzCCbjkf1uoUD62/s640/Storyboard2.jpg" width="465" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Above is a line drawing of my story and how its set out. The story follows the idea of domestic violence with a man attacking a woman and leaving her on the floor, hurt. This story can relate a lot to times now as many women are attacked by the (as they see it) the "stronger" gender. So like in Lichtenstein 50's paintings, I have tried to do an issue which is like the time and try to make the clothing more 21st Century (less prints and more pastel colourings for women, bright colours for the men.) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hopefully I can add colour to the image and give it the final look of a comic/ Lichtenstein piece of artwork.</div>Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-88513647780747487322011-04-11T15:36:00.000-07:002011-04-11T15:36:14.603-07:00My Idea for the Media Project.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My idea for the final piece uses the style and comic design of Roy Lichtenstein's painting but this time I have added my own story and design with the panel placement. Below was a quick sketch of my overall idea. Although this is rough and only a first draft, I will probably change the story to something which is relative to my own life. In the panels below it was originally intended to be two men fighting over a woman but after talking and designing, the men would look to alike and the story would be boring. I talked to my friend Charlie and he gave me and idea of domestic violence and a man attacking a woman. This was interesting as it was the opposite of what Lichtenstein's paintings showed - beautiful women with handsome men to a handsome man attacking a down- trodden woman.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This idea is interesting but I will probably keep the design below in my final piece.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The ability of seeing a film in a cinema and having that element of things coming at you and you being able to passively interact was the biggest attraction which added both suspense and creates emotion for the viewer (like if something jumps out people will physically jump or like in Wall-E the scene moved through the landscape giving the feeling of largeness and making people feel like they are a "small fish in an ocean".<br />
<br />
The film was usually the main output for 3D experimental films and practises but lately to has spread across many platforms such as television and even gaming. 3D TV was first released into mainstream marketing in March 2010 when TV with full 3D capabilities became a popular and well selling idea. People could then stream professional and fun 3D Films and TV right into their own living room without the hassle of going to the cinema. This allowed the whole family to enjoy its benefits of popular films and programmes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7DE5OJXBRdv4JgOWufXbhh7WXZsqfpv0Xdfm95W1xPOvUg3UrxpVOjQPsDvD6YG4EHOtPnq8sojNSUncuMV1tV9aOFlDRGgVUCGeQlLh2fS3InqCMcQKNzKXB65a97XhLtCSLIZQqBrZY/s1600/rcj3DhealthHazard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7DE5OJXBRdv4JgOWufXbhh7WXZsqfpv0Xdfm95W1xPOvUg3UrxpVOjQPsDvD6YG4EHOtPnq8sojNSUncuMV1tV9aOFlDRGgVUCGeQlLh2fS3InqCMcQKNzKXB65a97XhLtCSLIZQqBrZY/s640/rcj3DhealthHazard.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Nintendo also joined this revolution earlier this year with the release of their hand held system the 3DS. This was the first in hand-held gaming technology which allowed the player to experience 3D atmospheres and landscapes with this small screen. Games had a new element from the old 2D display that they used to show. A new feature was the AU capability (Augmented Reality) which allowed people to use the outside world and cards to create a whole new experience with the gaming. With the camera equipped to the handheld also, you can create an edit 3D photos and later on in the summer, 3D film.<br />

<br />
So if this is the revolution for 3D when is the revolution or the release of 4D going to come?<br />
Or is this the limitations of out technology today?Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-24938248514359998422011-04-11T08:13:00.000-07:002011-04-11T08:13:59.857-07:00My Photography - (2)More photos (conitnued from last post)<br />

<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/M_ipAFsEbhY" title="YouTube video player" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
A machinima is were someone uses a game engine to recreate scenes of their favourite movies or (in the case of RoosterTeeth) to make brand new shows with new story lines, plots and characters. The use of these storylines and these characters make intresting episodes, popular with people as they use games which as popular to most people. For RoosterTeeth, they use the Halo series engines to create these storys. Halo was an extremely (as still is) popular video game released for the Xbox by Bungie in 2001.<br />
<br />
After Red vs Blue became popular, other people saw the idea of using a game engine to create new stories and episodes. Some even used a mixture of real life shots with game action which was also popular (such as the Arby n' the Chief webisodes)<br />
<br />
These games within games are extremely popular as it uses an engine available to everyone which allows anyone to be able to make one if they had the right story. That is one of the reasons why this series became so popular - its ability to be done by everyone.<br />
<br />
Just to finish, this is my favourite part of the RvB Series:<br />

<br />
RoosterTeeth's latest creation, Angry Birds: The Movie was put online as a parody trailer for a popular game available on the iPhones, iPads and also Android Phones recently. Although this was supposed to be a fun trailer for people to watch and enjoy, many bombarded RoosterTeeth asking for information on its release and how they were going to film it.<br />
<br />
So my question is, on the internet what can you actually believe to be real (like films being released, information given etc.) and what is just for fun (like the angry birds trailer)<br />
<br />
It been a long running problem on the internet with information been released on it is its lack of validity and truthfulness. Wikipedia is one of the most famous examples as its a website which can be changed and edited about anyone who visits the website. This caused many problems with people as they believed that some of the information that was added to be true when infact they were edited for people's own malicious reasons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpZfzfHQq6yIF-fMnqnWPJsnZzX_HO_nSc79fdvgg1aeaVlqN0WzPHglCZ8wJBhe-_BFIs5bJK_UopUJ45uygN5U3WOh14rOhpUES_J0i3mUNDFxT93Y2Z5SsRiMjyvIzfDzISxNo33g4h/s1600/KAY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="321" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpZfzfHQq6yIF-fMnqnWPJsnZzX_HO_nSc79fdvgg1aeaVlqN0WzPHglCZ8wJBhe-_BFIs5bJK_UopUJ45uygN5U3WOh14rOhpUES_J0i3mUNDFxT93Y2Z5SsRiMjyvIzfDzISxNo33g4h/s640/KAY.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>For example Vernon Kay had to report to the police in 2008 when an editor said on Wikipedia he had died in a boating accident. Even close members of his family heard about it and questioned his wife and family.<br />
<br />
So on the internet how can we tell if something is true or fake?Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-27107205091794919722011-04-10T10:53:00.000-07:002011-04-10T10:53:46.057-07:00The Music Industry - The Rebecca Black Hate Campaign<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CD2LRROpph0" title="YouTube video player" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
When the video was released in February of this year, it was received extremely badly by both the audience and people within the music industry. To create another pop-sensation like "Justin Beiber" record labels are getting younger and younger pro-formers added to their label in hopes of attracting a younger audience and making more money. However what was actually happened?<br />
<br />
Although yes Justin Beiber was an immediate attraction for their female audience, Rebecca Black wasn't as the song was very well written and looked like someone tried to make the song quickly to try and attact the same audience as Beiber was appealing to... however the song was badly recieved that people made a mockery of it. Instead of attracting the needed people, they laughed as the song was "annoying and sung by a girl who hasn't got the best voice". The parodies however were an immediate attraction due to the media coverage of this "bad" song.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zzfQwXEqYaI" title="YouTube video player" width="640"></iframe><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgStCXx-5Qm-Me7Ou3AgasND6hfnYZMYKyFSABE76SgFHgb8cEgqeLstGMEa7sRHpvlYzSngLk4ojItu29EXcuWvw5Mf-rpTGWVxB3VERbNVhfWL9D2LJFuzeAXDBj8Wv50dlQXlnjh7xPH/s1600/RB+Results.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgStCXx-5Qm-Me7Ou3AgasND6hfnYZMYKyFSABE76SgFHgb8cEgqeLstGMEa7sRHpvlYzSngLk4ojItu29EXcuWvw5Mf-rpTGWVxB3VERbNVhfWL9D2LJFuzeAXDBj8Wv50dlQXlnjh7xPH/s320/RB+Results.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The parodies were popular to the audience as it took a song and made it into a joke attracting the audience originally intended for the original. The media coverage and popular shows mocking this also made parodies more popular - they were simulating a collection of the media's ideas and thoughts and making them into one public video for people's enjoyment.Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-30816169285087678102011-04-10T09:34:00.000-07:002011-04-10T09:34:13.720-07:00Ways of Seeing (1972) John Berger<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="510" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LnfB-pUm3eI" title="YouTube video player" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
Ways of Seeing was a collection of four programs created by John Berges in 1972. They were created to help people understand the concepts of the painting, and the "process of seeing a painting". In the first episode, he explains about perspective and the originality of paintings and how they "changed after the camera captured the image and sent it around the world". He explains how cropping the images into different sections can changed there perspective, meaning and seen in "the context of your own life" (your surroundings and not within their frames were they usually hang)<br />
<br />
"Its the image which now travels to you and no longer resides in its original surface and its meaning can becomes transmittable.. the faces of paintings become messages... pieces of information to be used to purchase their reproductions".<br />
<br />
With the invention of television, cameras and the internet, the production of photos from original source can be made available to anyone in huge amounts of copies, edits and variations meaning that some of the original meaning is lost as they are "pinned to the wall".<br />
<br />
"The images remain still within their frames - occasionally the stillness of the painting can make it most striking... pictures can be used for easily manipulation. they can be used to make arguments or points... completely different from its original meaning. Its manipulated with moment and sound."<br />
<br />
His example of Venus explains that the crop of the image has changed it from "an allegorical figure to a beautiful girl which can be seen anywhere".<br />
<br />
So the cropping an image and adding movement and sound can change its meaning to something simple or change it into something the image wasn't meant to be intended as. Therefore can we say that the reproduction of images changes the painting into something it is not or does it simply try or take the original and its the perception of the audience which changes it?<br />

The green image reminded as I was making it of a "techno" swirl I'd seen on Windows Music Player a few years ago and so I tried to imitate the colour, light and positioning accordingly. I integrated a mix of swirl, spectrum and explosion flame renders and got the above effect. After colourising the different layers I grained it slightly to make it look like the Windows player and added the lens flare for added depth. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCA52X_tcqegxIL7v-PA9neJZTTnx9CHems-CqZY1wLZMYlMnszZqclZRpoxvhFXuJYrMThoHPFzm35xalo4SA5pewtxpvi4xR0pvTkl1hRh-N3O8Fl-uie14Ec0Ppy9KAJr7EV83ZoA0n/s1600/JDJDJ.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCA52X_tcqegxIL7v-PA9neJZTTnx9CHems-CqZY1wLZMYlMnszZqclZRpoxvhFXuJYrMThoHPFzm35xalo4SA5pewtxpvi4xR0pvTkl1hRh-N3O8Fl-uie14Ec0Ppy9KAJr7EV83ZoA0n/s640/JDJDJ.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The second image was a mixture of the flame rendering but also being able to position the flame around the pink globe in the enter. Some may say that Mars could represent evil with him being surrounded by small horned children with all this clothes and staff. Some may say that as he sleeps, Venus and her horned helpers maybe stealing Mars' clothes and weapons to make him a weaker man.<br />
<br />
However I see this image as an image of love (represnted by Venus, the goddess of love) being relative to the image of war (Mars, the god of war). From the look of the image it shows Venus seducing Mars and using her beauty and love to disarm Mars of his his clothing, his weapons and other items. This could represent that by the use of love, war can be prevented and stopped with the use of its pureness (as you can see Venus is "pure" with her wearing white, smooth skin and facial features. ) The small satyrs who are playing with Mars weapons and armour could should that they are mocking him as he was "disarmed by love".Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-2925729856229426082011-04-10T06:22:00.000-07:002011-04-10T06:22:27.878-07:00Roy Lichtenstein - My Own StudiesThese are two drawings that I did that I attempted to colour in Photoshop to give this block colouring and still retain the black outline that the paintings have. First I drew them out in pencil trying to get the shape and composition of the paintings. I then outlined them for the black finish. I scanned the outlined picture into the computer ans set it up in Photoshop. I then used the Quick Selection Tool and marked off specific sections for colouring. Although I tried to get near enough to the colour, I added my own variation to bit I thought would look better. Here are two copies which I done. </div>Roy Lichtenstein art work was heavily influenced by comic book story's and design and also advertisements like billboards and television, and it is heavily predominate inside his work. A large majority of his work is put inside these black frames imitating this effect and even the way he painted his work with the use of small dots is a similar process in the creation in older comic books continuing this feeling of the work being a comic book piece of artistry. <div><br />
</div><div>The pictures are very 50's with the image of the women in both images. Many woman seen in 50's images were extremely glamourous, blonde and be extremely well dressed. For example in the first image with the woman and man in the car, the woman is wearing a typical 50's outfit for a woman part of the upper class personality. The leopard print fur shows wealth adding to this imagery of her upper class persona. The positioning of the woman is also important. The high collar makes her head be lifted upwards making her back straight making her walk with her head held high - showing grace and poise which is typically taught to woman of a high classing.</div><div><br />
</div><div>I like these images as the simple black outline and block colouring makes the image stand out be predominate in the frame. Comic books are something I enjoyed as a child allowing these images to have a personal tie to me. In society these images are popular for the comic book styling and simplistic look allows people to easily envisage the frame of the picture and the story that it tells. These images are excess-able to anyone wither they are of an artistic background or not.<br />

Here are some of the edits that I done on there. They are mainly colour editing but I feel that the separation of colour and the effect of grey scale to it makes them stand out better. I only added the colour in the pictures if:<br />
- That was the most predominate colour in the picture (like the wedding photo, the red was the main colour which is why its the only one coloured in)<br />
-The show emotion. (The "Puppy Love" was to show warmth with the dark reds and the dark greens.)<br />
-To make the photo more attractive and stand out better.<br />

<br />
Fight Gravity was a popular act in America's Got Talent in 2010. Their act was a creation of using dark shadingows, blacked out people and neon colourings to give this look of people able to impossible things. Although its a very simple process with the use of people in blacked out outfits controlling the movements and positioning of the dancers to simulative this look of them "defying gravity".<br />
<br />
Although the process in creating and preforming it is fairly straight foward, the effect it has is striking and remember-able. The effect of bright colours (the neon) and the black backdrop give this feeling that they are almost floating and can move inhumanly. This ability adds another aspect to this dance, the look "alien" to what is normally capable to a human being.<br />
<br />
Overall this type of artistry is uncommon on-stage but as you can see, its extremely popular and receives a really good reaction and attraction by the audience and also the judges.Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-87983841128358621802011-04-02T05:22:00.000-07:002011-04-02T05:22:52.461-07:00Artist Research - Leonardo Da Vinci - His Technical DrawingsBelow are two of my favourite examples of Leonardo da Vinci's technical drawings. The woman's head is bowed forward in the image which could say that she could either be in thought or she could be in prayer. The mouth or eyes express no emotion as they are both closed but you can still tell she is a gentle woman from her positioning, face and over atmosphere of the image. The pen da Vinci used shows her hair to be soft and wavy and frames her face as she looks down, adding to the feeling that woman is a woman of a gentle nature. The light that he has draw with adds light to her face showing it to be smooth and calm creating the atmosphere. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The second image is very different from the first. Although it is showing again the human body, this time the darker pen makes the shadows created by the hands and arms to be more pronounced and jump out. But they also make the light contrast better showing the different colourings and shadows that it makes as it hits the hands and arms in different places. The arms are place one against the stomach while the second higher placed by her heart. Usually the placement of hands this way shows sorrow or worry as if she is waiting for someone to return. It may show pain however meaning someone could have emotionally hurt her and she is holding herself like she is feeling her broken-heart. However because the image has no face we cannot determine if either of these are true. We can say however that either way the hands are placed like so because of an emotional pain - her own or another's. </div>Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-5806181697066730552011-03-28T06:52:00.000-07:002011-04-10T07:01:23.954-07:00GIMP Photo Editing - 1st Attempt.<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></div>Below the text is a couple of tester images using the photo-editing program named GIMP. For these images I used a variety of different layering processes, text editing and light manipulation to give the desired effect. Below each of the images is a basic summary of what the image is and how I made it.<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg76RZ81ix6x3ep0xbEvabsXXRkMbdt0ctAMJlMT7SajO98mf6k9gDavjqJrlZPWh-kbGpMrVQNQd6XX-baP7fs7yFocq-8o52e33U5bv4hr2ZCIuAh_t0P4MSTS8K0PqijLj3KDjJfft9k/s1600/DILLPUNNE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg76RZ81ix6x3ep0xbEvabsXXRkMbdt0ctAMJlMT7SajO98mf6k9gDavjqJrlZPWh-kbGpMrVQNQd6XX-baP7fs7yFocq-8o52e33U5bv4hr2ZCIuAh_t0P4MSTS8K0PqijLj3KDjJfft9k/s640/DILLPUNNE.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is my favourite image as took me about an hour to and hour and a half to complete. For this I integrated two separate pieces and layered them over each other to give this faded but striking effect. The text was a creation of creating separate layers and moving them to give a 3D effect. I also used the blending tools and gradient tools to give 3D more depth and also to create a metallic looking finish. I then integrated the text with a spiralled background (using the flame render tool) to give a contrast between the darker background and the lighter text.</div><br />

These (like the DillPunne image) were created with the Flame Render tool on GIMP but these were made by integrating random flame movements into each other. The first image used a mixture of spiralled and smoke effects to give a galaxic feel to the image and making it look like a photo that could be taken from space. I colourised it with different variations of blue to stand out against the darker background. I then added a "Lens Flare" option and manipulated the light to make it feel more 3D and for added contrast. The second image was originally created just like all the other images but I accidentally hit the invert option and it gave the image a smoky effect. The contrast of the white background makes the grey almost melt into it adding to this feeling of movement and smoke.</div>Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1423493878341142511.post-8186219641158741652011-03-28T04:44:00.000-07:002011-03-28T04:44:51.161-07:00The Dead Island Trailer<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="330" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Bwtr_-4vz6g?rel=0" title="YouTube video player" width="533"></iframe><br />

As popularity for video games gets larger and larger with new and exciting games coming out, you have to stoop and think sometimes why are we so attracted to these games? Is it because of their unusual storylines, fascinating and immerse graphics or is now simply to get a "kick" out of killing and maiming people and other fictional characters?<br />
<br />
After watching the above trailer I though about how far media institutions could go in order to attract and pull in their target audience with what they show and explain. The use of the little girl first of all being chased and bitten by these well used storyline "zombies" and how her parents fight for they're lives make the audience become emotionally attached with either sorrow for the fighting parents or excitement for this new and brilliant looking game.<br />
<br />
A youtube comment (see below) attached to this video gives a insight into one of the audience's own personal reactions:<br />

<br />
The above video from Rooster Teeth's "Achievement Hunter" Online series shows the reaction of Geoff, the AH presenter and the reaction towards the trailer. His own reaction is similar to mine as I questioned why the people making this game would decide to use the little girl being thrown out of the window to be a good addition to their marketing and how would that improve on sales. Many people watching this video may say that this makes people feel something towards it which then wants them to see it (could be compared to Maslow's Hierarchy of people seeing something and then wanting it - people who aspire to have better or interesting things) but most would say it would make them "shun" or not to become attracted as it is too emotionally effecting and personally disturbing.<br />
<br />
What ever the case it still received hundreds of complaints within a day of the trailers release.<br />
Could this say that people are believing the media institutions could be going a little too far?Phill Dunnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06224704321410856354noreply@blogger.com1
